Biglaw Firms In Israel Tell Associates To Work Remotely Amid Terror Attacks

// Israel FlagIsrael is at war in the wake of a surprise terror attack by Hamas, and international Biglaw firms with offices located within the region have told their employees to work remotely as the conflict worsens.

The American Lawyer has additional details on what Greenberg Traurig is doing to assist its employees:

Greenberg has one of the largest offices of any international law firm in the country, with 19 lawyers in Tel Aviv, which is one of several areas that has been targeted by the militant group Hamas in recent days.

In a statement, the firm said: “All of our employees in Tel Aviv are accounted for and sheltering at home where they are working remotely. We are in regular touch and providing support as needed. We stand with the many innocent people who have died or been injured as a result of this terrorist attack.”

Boston-based Sullivan & Worcester also has a large contingent of attorneys in Israel (16), and offered this statement to Am Law: “With Israel now at war, our hearts, prayers, and support are with our Israeli colleagues, clients, and their families in Tel Aviv and beyond. Our Israeli colleagues at Sullivan’s Tel Aviv office continue to work as usual but remotely. As always, their safety is our highest priority. ”

Other law firms with Tel Aviv offices include Kennedys, CMS, Latham & Watkins, Freshfields, and Honigman. Employees at CMS are still working, according to a statement from the firm: “Our colleagues and their families in Tel Aviv are safe and well, and our team remain working. We’re all shocked and deeply saddened by the harrowing events yet hopeful for calm over the days ahead.”

Respectfully, how are employees expected to work from home — or work at all — during a time when horrific crimes against humanity are unfolding all around them? The people of Israel are being killed indiscriminately, and more than 100 hostages have been taken. The last time this many Jews were killed in a single day was during the Holocaust. Biglaw firms must give employees the time off they need while these violent atrocities continue to occur.

Many a firm has offered statements of support for Israel, but it’s now time to offer more than words. Please stand with Israel. Please donate. Please support your Jewish friends and colleagues. Am Yisrael Chai.
