Former Biglaw Associate Convicted Of Sexual Assault Banned From Profession

// Sexual assault violence concept with gavel and book, 3D renderingLast year, former Biglaw attorney, Tom Hagyard, was convicted of two counts of assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault and sentenced to eight years in prison.

The conviction stems from an October 2017 house party in West London, England. Hagyard had recently begun working at Eversheds Sutherland, and attended a housewarming party with some colleagues. At the party, Hagyard assaulted two women, one of whom was a law student. He was suspended from the firm when the allegations became public, and was formally terminated by Eversheds in June of 2018.

But that’s not the end of the consequences for Hagyard. As reported by Legal Cheek, he’s been booted from the profession:

Hagyard has now been made subject to a section 43 order, barring him from working in the legal profession without prior permission from the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

The regulator found that “it is undesirable for him to be involved in a legal practice”.

Which, honestly, feels like an understatement.
