A former Greenberg Traurig lawyer was sentenced to 40 months in prison after pleading guilty to two bank robberies and three attempted bank robberies in South Florida.

Aaron Honaker, 42, of Miami was sentenced Dec. 1, according to a Dec. 9 press release. Law.com also has coverage.

The crimes occurred at banks in Coral Gables, Florida, and Aventura, Florida, in September and October 2020, according to the press release.

Honaker worked at Greenberg Traurig from 2008 to 2011, the law firm previously confirmed. He later worked at Salazar Jackson, a business boutique now known as Salazar Law that was formed by two former Greenberg Traurig lawyers, according to Law.com.

Honaker also worked at Martinez Morales, but he disappeared in 2018 and never returned, according to a name partner at the law firm who previously spoke with the Miami Herald.

In one of the unsuccessful robberies, the teller told Honaker that she couldn’t provide money because it is “in the machine,” according to an FBI affidavit supporting the criminal complaint.

In another, the teller told Honaker that she couldn’t read English on his demand note and would need help. In the third, the teller said she couldn’t provide money because it was in counting machines.

Honaker received $800 in one of the successful robberies and $1,050 in the other.

The Florida Supreme Court granted Honaker’s petition for a disciplinary revocation of his law license in April.

In a sentencing letter submitted on behalf of Honaker, a fellow inmate described him as kind-hearted, respectful, smart and a “willing to give you the shirt off his back” kind of guy. Honaker used his background to assist other inmates with their cases, the letter said. Other inmates also submitted letters on Honaker’s behalf.
