Harvard Law School To Offer Free Tuition To Some Incoming Law Students

// tuition Education and money vector illustration, flat cartoon graduation hat coins cash, concept of scholarship cost or loan, tuition or study fee, value of student knowledge, learning successCostly law school tuition has long been the bane of would-be lawyers’ career aspirations, but for the first time ever, some students at one of the most prestigious institutions in the country will be able to attend for free.

Starting this fall, students with the highest financial need at Harvard Law School will be able to attend tuition free, thanks to the school’s newly launched Opportunity Fund. While the elite law school currently offers need-based grants to about 40% of its students, as noted by Law.com, the Opportunity Fund is a “first-of-its-kind program” for Harvard Law. The financial aid program has two central goals: to help make a legal education accessible to every student in the J.D. program through need-based aid and to preserve a broad range of career options for graduates, according to Harvard Law’s website. …

“Harvard Law School has long worked to make legal education more accessible and to enable our students to pursue the career paths that are most meaningful to them, whether that’s in the public or private sector,” Harvard Law Dean John Manning said in a statement. “Opportunity Fund scholarships for our students with the highest levels of need will continue to advance that commitment.”

Eligibility for the Opportunity Fund will be based on each student’s circumstances, and according to the law school’s announcement, many students who qualify for the program may come from families with incomes at or two times below the federal poverty level.

Congratulations to all future beneficiaries of Harvard Law’s Opportunity Fund. It really is the “opportunity” of a lifetime.
