Here Today, Gone Tomorrow: NYU Doesn’t Have An SBA Anymore

On the 10th of October, Ryna Workman, then president of NYU Law’s SBA, sent out a letter that blamed Israel for Hamas’s terrorist attack. Shortly after, her title became former president of NYU’s SBA. You may have wondered who would rise to the occasion as her replacement. That would have been a much easier problem to solve than what is actually the case — NYU no longer has a SBA. From Law.com:

The NYU Law SBA disbanded, with all seven members stepping down from their roles, days after its former president Ryna Workman sent the message via the SBA newsletter on Oct. 10, according to an article posted on Oct. 20 to the Washington Square News, NYU’s student newspaper.

When Law.com emailed the NYU Law SBA on Oct. 17 and again on Oct. 22, a “delivery status notification” was received stating, “We’re writing to let you know that the group you tried to contact (law.sba) may not exist” among other possible issues that may have caused the email to “fail” to reach the SBA.

You know things are serious when they gut the automatic email responses. All that said, NYU’s approach to not responding is pretty classy — a certain  corporation rapidly declining in value could even take a note or two.

Thankfully, the members displayed some foresight and left a process that could reinstate the SBA:

Former members of the SBA said they initiated a petition for NYU Law students to decide whether the school’s student body will elect new leadership for the group. If a fourth of the student body signs the petition, the SBA will run a school-wide vote on who should lead it, according to the NYU article.

I doubt it will take long before a couple of try-hards get the votes needed to reform the SBA. After all, someone has to organize the year-end law prom and any of the positions look great on the resume.
