Honey, He Masked The Kids!

Few things hurt quite like a “we were rooting for you” moment. A woman posing as a reporter was recently fired after asking the Mayor of New York about the continued enforcement of mask wearing on school children aged two to four.

A New York City Law Department employee who crashed Mayor Adams' press conference posing as a reporter to confront him over toddler mask mandates has been terminated from her job. https://t.co/FqhMFsHEGu

I was curious to see what the noise was all about so I did a bit of searching and was able to find the question that was worth a canning.

No answer from @NYCMayor as to what “Irreparable Harm” would be caused in NYC if 2-4 yr olds were allowed mask choice.

This all seemed pretty reasonable. I was not sure why there was much controversy regarding her stance, that is until I found a recent tweet of hers.

Cw: child molester

“I am an attorney for the city. I have represented cops who lie in court, teachers who molest children, prison guards who beat inmates. It is a job I have done proudly. Until the city made kids wear masks.”

Setting boundaries is an important tool in one’s self-care arsenal. That said, not everyone’s Line-Crossed-O’-Meter comes loaded with the same coordinates. The way people voice discontent always keeps my attention. My first response would have been, I don’t know, a Pink Floyd callback telling the Mayor to leave those kids alone. It would have never crossed my mind to open with “I, Cop-Beaty Mc Child Molester defender think this masking stuff is getting unethical.” That said, surely a person that represented NYC’s Law Department don’t need no education on this matter.

If my stroll through Manhattan a couple weeks ago was any indicator, most of the places in New York have become de facto mask optional. It would be weird if schoolchildren ages 2-4 were the only ones really feeling the brunt of the mandates. Besides this officer roleplaying journalist that was let go for asking about the policy, of course. Might I suggest that if other folks think that she has a point in opposing the toddler masking — they probably do make it harder to watch Doc McStuffins — don’t go tweeting about it how she did? Thanks.
