The details: Founded in 2010, Apt2B is no stranger to the dynamic landscape of home furniture. Its wide variety of made-to-order sofas is designed to fit in any home, from sprawling open floor plans to the railroad apartments any city dweller knows well. Their direct-to-consumer model allows them to offer high-quality, built-to-last pieces at a price rooted firmly in reality. The customization options at Apt2B mean you’re getting a couch quite literally built for your home, but also your lifestyle: from the busy households full of toddlers and teens, or pets and paws, to those of us toting stain sticks in our purses.

Ordering process

Price: How much does it cost? Are there payment plans available?

The Logan Two-Piece Sectional Sofa is $3,298.00, with options to add both three- and five-year warranties. Not exactly pocket change, but they do offer a wide range of payment plans starting as low as about $84 a month. Approval for these depends on your credit score (similar to applying for a loan), so it isn’t a guarantee you’ll be able to spread out the cost.

What are the upholstery or customization options? Did you choose any?

Apt2B prides itself on the adaptability of its furniture line, and this piece doesn’t disappoint. There are 57 fabric options available, which range in color and material, meaning a busy home can choose a highly durable, “practically bulletproof” woven fabric. On the other hand, a lower-impact household (say, without pets or kids) can choose a lighter fabric, including several velvet options. The company provides free swatches, so you can be sure the couch you’re getting will match your decor before committing.

You can also choose between three finishes for the legs and the configuration of the chaise. The living room is the center of my home, so I wanted a piece that would create a cozy atmosphere that’s as good for entertaining as it is for taking a post-Thanksgiving nap. I configured the sectional with the chaise on the left to fit neatly into the nook by our hearth, so curling up by the fire is easy and comfortable. I chose a poly-soft fabric that is soft and easy to spot-clean—as the owner of a somewhat dubious dog, I wanted to be sure the piece would be able to handle the occasional spill. The moss-green color I picked matches my carpet and adds to the general color palette of my space nicely.

What is the lead time for customization, manufacturing, and delivery?

Because these sofas are built to order, the manufacturing process is quite long (four to six weeks, according to their website). In my case, it was more like eight weeks from when I placed my order to when I received it. While this was mildly frustrating, the saving grace of Apt2B’s longer-than-usual lead times is their communication. I received several updates by email regarding the production of the sofa, shipping information, expected arrival, and finally a phone call with a four-hour window for delivery. This made it easy to be certain someone was home to receive it and took a lot of stress out of the process—no need to constantly refresh your tracking link or put your whole day on pause.

Couch delivery + assembly

What was the delivery process like?

Apt2B offers white-glove delivery, meaning there’s no assembly required. As someone who has screwed on one too many doors upside down, DIY furniture isn’t for me. So, I really appreciated being able to step back and have a professional do the work. The specific delivery window gave us plenty of time to get rid of our old couch without running the risk of finding ourselves without a sofa suddenly!

What was the assembly process like? How long did it take and how many people?

The entire assembly was completed by two delivery drivers and took 20 minutes. They were prompt and efficient, wore masks, respected social distancing, and were incredibly courteous. They brought the couch in, assembled it, and took all the boxes, wrapping, and foam away with them.

After installation

What are the dimensions? How does it fit in your space? Would it be better suited for a different type of home?

The Logan sectional is 108 inches wide, 68 inches deep, and 33 inches high overall, while the sofa portion is 73 inches wide, 36 inches deep, and 33 inches high. The chaise section measures 35 inches wide, 68 inches deep, and 33 inches high. It is both taller and deeper than a typical couch, so definitely not for those living in cramped quarters, but it fits nicely in my more open-concept house in Maine.

Sit test: Is it comfortable? Does it feel well made? Does the couch have a tendency to sag?

The couch is comfortable, if a bit firm, and feels very well made. I especially like the fabric, which has a durable feel without being scratchy. It feels soft enough to curl up on, but definitely has some structure to it. This is not a quicksand couch and, personally, my spine thanks me for that! The seat is quite deep, however—I’m 5’1” and my feet don’t touch the ground when I’m sitting all the way back, which, while I don’t mind so much when it’s just me, is a little awkward when you’re entertaining guests.

Lay test:  Is it comfortable? Does it feel well made? Does the couch have a tendency to sag?

This couch takes up more space than I anticipated and is better suited to larger living rooms/homes. The chaise, especially, would make it a hard fit for a small apartment, but it has a clean contemporary look that makes it adaptable for any decor style, and it’s understated enough to blend in, without feeling like a piece of office furniture.

Is the sectional suitable for particular decor styles and, if so, which?

The Logan sectional is well made and very sturdy. The legs were equipped with well-fitting felt pads, which, having a pine floor, was an important factor. For our home, which has a somewhat open floor plan, this couch is very practical, and the chaise detaches easily from the body of the sectional, so maneuvering the couch around isn’t a hassle when you want to rearrange. Also, the polyblend fabric is easy to spot-clean, which means that I don’t have to worry about small messes, which are inevitable in our house.

Is it durable/practical in a modern home? Is the couch kid- and/or dog-friendly?

The Logan sectional is soft, comfortable, and large. There are no sharp edges or exposed wood, which is great for a busy house with kids running around: I don’t have to worry about someone accidentally hitting their head. The weave of the fabric is quite thick, which makes it a good choice to resist normal wear and tear but makes getting pet hair out a little difficult. Because of this, I put down a blanket before letting the dog up. While a little tall, in general, I think it’s a great family couch—being able to fit four (and squeeze a fifth) makes it great for an at-home movie night or entertaining large groups.

What are the care and cleaning instructions? Do you think stains could be easily removed?

The cushion covers of this couch are removable, which is handy, but they must be dry-cleaned rather than thrown in the washing machine at home. They can also be spot-cleaned in an emergency, and I intentionally chose a darker fabric, so that it wouldn’t look dingy over time.

Do the photos do this product justice? Was there anything you were surprised to see IRL?

The fabric is a slightly brighter shade of moss than the website infers, and it’s much taller than I realized, but overall, the pictures are an accurate depiction of the sectional. I’m really pleased with how comfortable it is without becoming squishy. This is my first online sofa purchase, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how easy the process was and how happy I am with the product. I would definitely recommend this sofa and Apt2B in general to a friend looking to furnish their own home.
