This week, the AD team is in Orlando, Florida, to report from the ground at KBIS 2022 and its companion show, IBS. Get your bearings in our preview article, see what you missed yesterday, and be sure to check back in next week for our recap of the kitchen and bath trends you need to know now.

Nature Calls

Editors were eyeballs-deep in surfacing and slabs, paying visits to booths across the fair. Over at Caesarstone, we were greeted with kitchen and bath schemes by Brian Brown featuring the company’s eight introductions. The booth’s zenned-out bathroom deployed products from the new Pebbles collection to channel the feeling of nature indoors. Pairing the line with a rugged stone sink, Brown brought a serene, spa-like feeling to the space—not always an easy feat at a trade show. The line comes in five evocative shades, including Riverlet, an off-white variation tinged with honey-hued veins, and Raindream, a slate-on-gray design.

Sustainability Wins Out

Afterwards, we hurried to the booth for the Cosentino family of brands. (Liken jam-packed KBIS appointment schedules to home renovation plans: There’s sure to be a few time delays!) This year’s showing marks a major event for the surfaces manufacturer: After years of R&D and a major investment, 100% of Silestone products are now made with “HydriQ technology.” In layman’s terms, that means made sustainably—renewable electric energy, 99% reused water, and recycled ingredients. And just as important, the process itself doesn’t result in particle emissions or water discharge. Continuing the sustainability initiative, the Sunlit Days collection for Silestone marks Cosentino’s first foray into carbon neutrality, and features an edited array of hues like Cala Blue and Arcilla Red.

Getting Creative with Quartz

At Cambria, all eyes were on novel applications for the brand’s quartz products. We witnessed how designers can backlight the 6-millimeter thickness to add drama and make veining sing. Elsewhere, the brand used the material to produce an ultra-luxe ping-pong table. (Given the current yen for game rooms, we’d love to see how the pros will use surfaces for playful, high-end designs over the next year.) And at Quantra, we saw through a display of sinks how the brand’s quartz offerings can be used to create sculptural, functional designs.

Breathing Easy

Air quality is on minds more than ever, which is leading some manufacturers to making healthier products. Aside from more predictable introductions such as air purifiers, some innovations may surprise you. Sherwin-Williams, for instance, has debuted the Living Well collection, including in futuristic-sounding SuperPaint with Air-Purifying Technology, which breaks down VOCs and odors that may come off of fabrics, carpets, or cabinets. Another version of SuperPaint offers “Sanitizing Technology,” which helps to mitigate certain strains of bacteria for up to four years. There are 11 palettes in the Living Well range, each one titled with a wellness-evoking verb: Balance, Create, Focus, Inspire, Recharge, and more.
