Law School Goes Remote For Last Week Of Classes, Finals Due To ‘Possible Threat’

// Closeup of a pile of caution tapeStudents at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law are being forced to attend class online for the second time this month thanks alleged threats made against the school.

Not only will students be missing out on their last week of in-person learning, but their final exams have been pushed into a remote environment as well. According to University of Arizona President Dr. Robert Robbins, the campus closure is being made out of “an abundance of caution.”

Law.com has additional information on what is unfolding at the law school, as detailed in an email sent by Dean Marc Miller, Associate Dean for Administration Karen Kowalski, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Jason Kreag:

“As you know, two weeks ago, the College of Law transitioned to remote learning for a few days as members of law enforcement and our campus safety officials examined a possible threat,” the email continued. “To be clear, we believe there is no specific nor credible threat to our community at this time.”

The person who precipitated these events that began on Monday, April 10, has been barred from campus, and echoing university President Robbins, the email states that the closures are out of an abundance of caution.

Additionally, the email outlined operation changes for the end of the semester stating that UArizona Law personnel and appropriate UA entities and colleagues have partnered throughout in “monitoring concerns raised, seeking more complete information and working with individuals in the direct circle of impact.”

In the interim, the law school campus remains open, and additional safety measures have been enacted, including the presence of more security personnel and the use of an active CatCard to enter law school buildings.

The Arizona Law deans reiterated the following at the conclusion of their email: “We believe there is no specific nor credible threat to our community at this time.”

Best of luck on finals to all students at Arizona Law.
