Between Moonlight, True Detective, House of Cards, and Ramy, Mahershala Ali has spent the past decade proving himself to be one of the great dramatic actors of his generation. While he might not have any projects set to be released this year, it’s clear he has his hands full with the three properties he owns across the U.S. The most recent addition is an Oakland, California, getaway which set the actor back $1.175 million, Dirt reports.

The 2,194 square foot home seems to be a good fit for Ali, who is a native of the Bay Area city and who previously described his decor style as “a little bit eccentric” in an interview with AD. The pad, which was built in 1963, has a rustic-meets-mid century feeling, with wood siding on the exterior and wood paneling on the ceilings inside. In the open kitchen and living area, the statement copper range hood takes center stage. The primary suite’s bathroom is a sharp left turn from that woodsy aesthetic, with 80s-style glass bricks and blue tiling on the floors, the vanity, and select portions of the walls.

The four bedrooms and three bathrooms are split between two levels, each with their own wood verandas that lead to larger decks for additional outdoor space surrounded by lush greenery. A charming wooden spiral staircase connects the two floors, the lower of which functions as an in-law suite, thanks to the additional kitchen and living space it contains. Altogether, the lower level’s style is more cohesive than the upper floor, though the white walled space certainly has less personality than its counterpart. We can’t know for sure, but it seems likely that if the Oscar-winner and his wife, producer and actor Amatus Sami-Karim, plan to live in the home themselves, they will make some updates to the residence before settling in.
