Russian Bomb Hoax Targets Manhattan District Attorney’s Office

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office’s already high profile has gone through the roof — what with the grand jury investigation of and ultimate indictment of the former president, Donald Trump. One result of all this attention was a series of hoax bomb threats targeting Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, and court buildings.

The threats were determined to be unsubstantiated and are being investigated by the New York Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The threats were sent to the local community board and determined to be from Russian sources, as reported by Law360:

“The FBI told me that they appear to be coming from Russia,” said Susan Stetzer, district manager of Community Board 3, who read the emails to Law360 Friday. The board received four email threats over the three days, often sent from @mail.ru domains under different names, she said. The NYPD confirmed the board was the recipient of the original bomb threat on Tuesday.

Those aren’t the only security threats the DA’s office is dealing with. There was also reportedly a suspicious white substance sent to Bragg along with “a single piece of white paper with a brief message containing the typewritten words ‘Alvin: I am going to kill you’ followed by 13 exclamation points.” A spokesperson from the DA’s office said “it was immediately contained and that the NYPD Emergency Service Unit and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection determined there was no dangerous substance.”

Plus there’ve been the threatening emails and calls to the DA’s office, which, while not directly discussing the presidential indictment, echo Trump’s language about the development, saying it’s “the downfall of our country” and “you people are destroying America.”

All this is what we know happened when the DA was *thinking* of indicting Trump. I’m sure they’re bracing themselves for what comes next now that it’s a reality and the arraignment of Trump is scheduled for tomorrow.
