Obsessed with old houses and ambitious renovation projects? You’re likely to find something to love on AD’s new YouTube series, which launches today. In it, Nick Schiffer, owner of NS Builders, takes viewers through old houses that are in need of some love. Doling out construction and carpentry tips as he explores the projects, Schiffer offers plenty of interesting insights that may inform your future remodeling efforts.

The subject of the first episode is an 1892 house in Goshen, New York. Though the bones of it are lovely, the structure is in need of some serious TLC. The listing price is $299,000, and throughout the video, Schiffer estimates how much money you’d need to spend to make the space livable. At the very end, he gives the total expected price tag—$300,000 to $400,000, but it could easily go up to $1 million if you want to make the house really something.

Original details like the brick exterior, slate roof, millwork, and doors would need restoration work but offer plenty of historic charm. Schiffer suggests that lightening up the color palette in the interior would make things feel much more modern and uniform, and suggests some luxurious upgrades—like converting the home’s eye-catching turret into a next-level shower and adding extra bedrooms to the attic.
