// It’s the end of an era for Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, a firm that existed as an elite among its peers for nearly 150 years before disaster struck. In the wake of losing more than half of its partners to Hogan Lovells, the firm announced its plans for a dissolution. While the firm has indicated that many of its partners and associates will be joining Hogan Lovells (or one of the other firms it recently attempted to merge with), what will happen to the rest of its employees?

As noted by Bloomberg Law, the day after the storied firm publicly announced that it would be closing its doors, it filed a WARN Act notice in New York, indicating that nearly 140 employees would be laid off.

Stroock’s WARN Act notice also states that its official New York closing date is January 30, 2024. The firm’s partners have already authorized the executive committee to “dissolve the firm at the appropriate time” — and we suppose we now know around when that will be happening.

Best of luck to those who are being let go from Stroock & Stroock & Lavan ahead of the firm’s dissolution, which may come shortly after January 30, 2024.
