This Law School Has The Most Women Enrolled In Its History

// At least one law school is breaking diversity records even after SFFA v. Harvard. Rutgers Law’s newest cohort has started law school and broken several of the school’s diversity records in the process. Take that, Tom Cotton! From Patch.com:

According to Rutgers, about 59 percent of the more than 400 full-time and part-time students who began their journey through law school last week are women – the highest total in its history.

As surprising as this is to read, it makes sense given the recent trajectory of law school demographics: the amount of males enrolling in law school has been steadily declining for a decade as the amount of females has increased. It doesn’t end there, though — Rutgers Law is still setting records:

There are other encouraging statistics when it comes to diversity in the new class of future attorneys, Rutgers administrators said. In Newark, the new students range in age from 17 to more than 60. About 48 percent identify as students of color, 24 percent are first-generation college graduates, and 77 percent are first-generation law students. In all, 22 states and 22 countries are represented.

In Camden, the 2023 incoming part-time students have the highest academic record and highest enrollment of students of color (33 percent) for its class in the law school’s history.

Rutgers gets to claim the successes of both its Newark and Camden campuses because the law schools merged back in 2015. If Rutgers continues to break records, they’d be a great model for Penn State to model their planned merger off of. While Penn State has been very hopeful about the good that could come from merging the Carlisle and University Park campuses, they’ve been scarce on the implementation details.
