On the eventful season three finale of HBO’s Succession, which aired December 12, Kendall Roy is dressed pretty simply amidst the luxury of his mother’s wedding in Italy, though he does don an eye-grabbing pendant. AD can reveal that Kendall’s bling was designed by none other than contemporary artist Rashid Johnson. Portrayed brilliantly by Jeremy Strong, Kendall had a tumultuous season, beginning with the literal high of spending time holed up at his ex-wife’s extravagant Tribeca penthouse and leading to a near-death experience, so it’s only fitting that he should dawn a necklace bearing one of Johnson’s “Anxious Men” paintings.

The $15,500 necklace Kendall Roy dons, which is a limited edition of 15, was released in 2020 with a collection of rings, cuffs, and pendants designed by Johnson. It was made in collaboration with LIZWORKS, Liz Swig’s jewelry company that has created pieces with numerous notable artists including Barbara Kruger, Mickalene Thomas, and Cindy Sherman. Beyond aesthetic aims, Johnson’s collection was made to raise money for Prep for Prep and the Black Mental Health Alliance—the artist split 100% of his proceeds between the two charities. “I’ve had my own experience with anxiety in the past and I am really interested in organizations that destigmatize it and provide opportunities for treatment in communities of color,” Johnson told AD upon the release of the jewelry.

Particularly throughout the third season, Kendall Roy continually tries to prove that he’s more cultured and less selfish than the other members of his billionaire family, so it’s only natural that he’d opt for a pendant that signals not only an awareness of contemporary art but also a desire to give back.
